Basic Analysis of YoWhatsapp,GBwhatsapp and Pockettv App in Virustotal

No matter how many times security professionals warn people , many people still do use modified whatsapp versions and Cracked Software either to avoid paying license or to get extra cool features which are not available in original software . I decided to check most commonly used cracked softwares  to find if these apps are really safe enough using virustotal.

First of all i uploaded GB whatsapp apk from https://latestmodapks.com/gbwhatsapp-download-latest-version-android/ to Virustotal , this app seems to be bundled with ads ( the original whatsapp doesnot contain any ads.) , this might be annoying and dangerous, such ads can increase the risk of clicking Ads infected with malware or compromise your privacy by selling your data and this app  had 2 detections as malware in virustotal as shown in the image above.

In the case of Yowhatsapp it had single detection which labelled it as a potentially unwanted program.

The sample of Yowhatsapp which i used for this purpose can be accessed from https://www.malavida.com/en/soft/yowhatsapp/android/

Finally i scanned Pockettv application , this app offers latest movies for free in android, the results i obtained was interesting because even though the apk was not detected by any antivirus engine, one of the URLs connected by this app was found suspicious by virustotal.

This sample of pockettv can be accessed from https://pockettv.xyz/

Final conclusion is that it is wise to avoid cracked software and don't install any apps outside playstore. These apps can  malicious and may lead to loss of personal information including passwords and banking details.

In case you are still in need of these apps it would be better to buy a cheap 2nd hand android phone and dedicate it for running these apps. This phone should never be used for storing any personal information. Hope it helps!
